Byron Holtzclaw had passed the test for Petty Officer. However, he never received the pay of the Petty Officer due to Eisenhower freezing the payments due to financial hardship in 1952.
He was a decorated sailor and received the Korean Volden Medallion Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal – Three Battle Stars, and several campaign Ribbons and Medals.
He was awarded Who’s Who in California 1986, 16th Edition.
During his spare time, he volunteers at the VA Hospital in Long Beach, CA, Disabled Veterans, Whittier, CA, and American Legion, Huntington Beach, CA.
He has been an integral part of Save our Strays, Huntington Beach, CA as a Platinum Member, Los Angeles County Pound, and Scottie Rescue, Westminster, CA.
